How to Withdraw Your Bitcoin from Botanix

How to Withdraw Your Bitcoin from Botanix

In the world of Bitcoin innovation, not every bold experiment finds its footing - and that's okay. The Botanix team deserves real respect for how they've handled the wind-down of their Layer 2 project. With transparency, clear communication, and a thoughtful postmortem, they've put users first during a difficult decision. It's a class act in an industry that doesn't always see graceful exits. Props to them for building something ambitious over nearly four years, even if the market ultimately voted differently.

Botanix brought EVM-compatible smart contracts to Bitcoin via its Spiderchain architecture, aiming to unlock DeFi and programmable applications on the world's hardest money. After about a year on mainnet - with impressive numbers like ~25 million transactions and 200,000 wallets - the team made the tough call to shut down operations. The network will fully wind down with a hard deadline of July 9, 2026. Users are strongly encouraged to withdraw their Bitcoin (BTC) and other assets before then to avoid any risk as the federation manages the final sweep.

This guide walks you through the process

Why This Matters Now

Bitcoin's strength has always been its simplicity and security at the base layer. Projects like Botanix pushed boundaries to add utility, and while this chapter closes, the lessons will inform future efforts. For holders with funds on Botanix, acting promptly ensures you retain full control of your Bitcoin.

Critical Deadline: July 9, 2026. Assets remaining after this point, especially non-BTC tokens, risk becoming unrecoverable. BTC may be handled via the federation sweep.

Prerequisites Before Withdrawing

  • Compatible Wallet: Use an EVM wallet like LayerzWallet connected to the Botanix network. Confirm your BTC balance is visible.

  • Secure L1 Address: Prepare a Bitcoin mainnet address from a trusted wallet, LayerzWallet will automatically do this for you. (Verify it twice if using another wallet - Bitcoin doesn't do take-backs.)

  • Fees Covered: Keep a bit extra for Botanix gas and Bitcoin network fees. (you may end up losing about $0.05 that will be unrecoverable.)

  • Official Bridge Only: Stick to https://bridge.botanixlabs.com/ - bookmark it and double-check the URL.

Step-by-Step: How to Withdraw BTC from Botanix

These steps follow the official Botanix Bridge process. Take your time, especially if this is your first bridge withdrawal.

Step 1: Prepare and Enter Details

  1. Visit the official Botanix Bridge and securely connect your wallet.

  2. Navigate to the "Withdraw" tab.

  3. Input the Amount of BTC you'd like to move (quick buttons for 25%, 50%, etc., are handy). Minimum is around 0.0001 BTC.

  4. Carefully check your Bitcoin mainnet recipient address. This will be populated automatically by Layerz Wallet and will default to your “Daily Pocket” on chain BTC address

Step 2: Initiate the Withdrawal

  1. Review the summary: amount, address, and estimated fees.

  2. Confirm the transaction in your wallet.

  3. The request will process in the next epoch (typically quick, around every minute).

Step 3: Monitor and Confirm

  • Check your withdrawal history directly in the bridge.

  • Once confirmed, your BTC is burned on L2 and released on L1 via the multisig.

  • Track it on a reliable explorer like mempool.space. Expect around 10 minutes, though Bitcoin congestion can vary.

Fees: Transparent - Botanix gas plus standard Bitcoin fees, automatically handled.

Handling Other Assets (Tokens, stBTC, etc.)

  • Prioritize native BTC withdrawals via the bridge.

  • For wrapped tokens or other assets, consider swapping to BTC on any remaining DEX activity if feasible, then bridge. Non-BTC assets left behind are generally not recoverable.

  • If you hold stBTC or similar yield positions, redeem/unstake promptly through relevant interfaces while still active.

Common Issues and Support

  • Balance Shortfalls: Always ensure you have enough for the full amount plus fees.

  • Failed Transactions: Check address validity and gas.

  • Delays: Normal during network activity - patience is key.

  • Reach out via official Botanix channels only. Beware of scams promising "help" during wind-downs.

Final Thoughts

The Botanix team showed tremendous respect for their community by handling this shutdown with honesty and urgency. Now it's our turn to respect that by securing our assets thoughtfully. Move your Bitcoin sooner rather than later - avoid the last-minute rush that could bring unnecessary stress or congestion.

Bitcoin endures. Experiments like Botanix, even when they don't achieve product-market fit, push the ecosystem forward. As I often emphasize in conversations around Bitcoin utility, the base layer's strength remains unmatched, and thoughtful L2 approaches will continue to be explored.

For the absolute latest, check official Botanix announcements or their X account. This guide reflects information available as of mid-June 2026 - always verify directly.

Secure those sats, and here's to the next chapter in Bitcoin's journey. Stay sovereign, stay safe.
